The Human People have lost their way and in so doing have placed not only themselves but all of Life on Earth in peril. We Civilized humans have temporarily exceeded the carrying capacity of our environment and have grown seemingly without bounds. The wealth of the Earth was such that, in our ignorance, we believed we could continue our exploitation of the planet for the foreseeable future. We have underestimated both our prolificness and proficiency at exploiting our environment. Many of us now see the end of modern life rapidly approaching.
For our non-human relations, who are quickly perishing under the pressures of our unsustainable Civilization, the end can not come soon enough. Already, we have dangerously damaged the Earth's Life Support systems upon which we all depend. In so do doing we leave not only ourselves, but any future generations severely impoverished.
If we do not voluntarily dismantle the destructive and unsustainable Civilization we have created, it will be dismantled for us. Though many of us foolhardily believe that we are outside the Laws of Nature, the inescapable truth is that an unsustainable Lifeway cannot be sustained. We have not always lived beyond our means. For millions of years the Human People were able to live in Balance with the Community of Life on Earth. For millions of years we were able to live lives full of meaning and purpose.
Our modern way of life has isolated us from the Earth. This isolation has lead to a deeply profound emptiness within us. An emptiness we unsuccessfully try to fill with TV, drugs, consumption, and the other trappings of modern life. Our emptiness and alienation has enabled us to pathologically destroy life, while destroying ourselves. If we wish to continue as a People, we must rediscover how to live in Balance with All Our Relations. Now is the time for us to talk honestly and openly about our Earth in Crisis!
